rock island

This is a monument to trains at Rock Island , Illinois .
It tells the story of the Chicago and Pacific Railroad Co. They were the first to erect a bridge across the "Father of Waters", the Mississippi , so that trains could cross to other parts of the country .
Not only goods trains but passenger trains as well - the ones known as the Rockets .
This was between 1852 - 1952.
